What we Believe we Deserve is very important!

The experiences that we have in life are about what we belief we deserve.  What we think and feel we deserve to have happen determines our everyday life, what feel, our physical health and well being, our relationships with others, our vocation in life and just about everything else.  What we say to ourselves about what we deserve matters greatly.

For the most part, what we think and feel we deserve to have happen comes from our sense of worth and value that we say we have as a human being.  If we believe that we are not worthy or of little or no value as a human being then we will create more of thatby continuing to attract things into our life, people, places and things, that support and eventually only reinforce that believe that we have about our deservability.  It is our self affirmations that we say about ourselves that creates our sense of deserving.

Our work is to create worth and value not from what we do or have in life but from our word, what we say and believe about ourselves.  It is our word, our self talk about ourselves, that determines our sense of what we deserve.  Change what you think and belief about yourself and you will change what happens to you, what you think you deserve from life.  Your word about yourself, what you think and belief to be true about you, will determine what you experience in your life.  Again, the use of positive affirmations is one method for truly transforming your very existence.

What is Self Esteem?

What is self-esteem?  We commonly think that self-esteem is merely about how we feel about ourselves at any particular moment.  While seemingly existing in degrees, we tend to believe that we have positive or negative self-esteem and that we make that determination simply by how we feel about ourselves.
However, within a conversation of holistic counseling, our feelings or emotions do not exist alone or have an independent existence.  We do not just simply feel.  Rather, for every feeling or emotion that we have, either positive or negative, there is a corresponding thought that we have about ourselves that generates the experience of self-esteem.
Whether positive or negative, self-esteem is merely how our organism experiences the thoughts that the individual has about himself or herself. If a person has positive thoughts about himself he will experience positive or good self-esteem.  On the other hand, if the individual has negative thoughts about who he thinks he is then he will experience poor or negative self-esteem.
Therefore, to truly understand what self-esteem is all about and more importantly to be able to alter it when necessary for ones wellness or healing, we must first get it that self-esteem is really about our thinking, and more specifically about the thoughts that we develop or create about ourselves.  The thoughts or beliefs that we have about ourselves are crucial in that they determine or create the structure of our experience of self-esteem and the various emotions associated with it.

The Four Stages of the Process of Recovery.

It appears that there are four stages of the process of recovery that one should be aware of.  Sometimes awareness can be of great benefit to those who are taking their recovery seriously.  Knowing the four stages will assist an individual in being able to access where they are in the process and if needed taking appropriate action to avoid relapse.

Stage One:  Working the program of recovery.  When individuals come out of treatment they tend to feel good, believing that they have truly started a process of recovery and transformation.

Stage Two:  The Dip.  The Dip is when the individual begins to experience the negative emotional side of life, and all of the negative emotions associated with it.  The person will feel sad, depressed, anxious, frustration, etc.

Stage Three:  The Breakdown.  It is here that the individual starts to move toward relapse.  It is here that the individual is starting to lose the knowledge and wisdom once gained.  Relapse has not yet happened.

Stage Four:  Relapse.

The key to this type of paradigm is to know when one is going into The Dip and the steps to take to avoid slipping into Breakdown.  Once in a Breakdown it is difficult to pull oneself out of it and avoid relapse.  Usually the individual did not follow suggestions when they entered The Dip.  The Dip is part of life, part of being a human being.  We all experience it, and especially an individual in recovery.  The key is being able to manage The Dip appropriately, of reaching out to another human being for counsel.  If The Dip is not managed appropriately and effectively the individual will enter a Breakdown and most likely relapse.  The goal is to manage The Dip and return to stage one, practicing the program of recovery.

A Simple Truth about Who We Are in Life.

One simple truth is that we are perfect, whole and complete just as we are. It is our story about ourselves that does not allow us to truly experience our own completeness and greatness.  Making mistakes in life does not make us wrong or flawed in some way but only presents us with feedback and valuable opportunities for growth.

Becoming present to how we make ourselves wrong, of how we put ourselves down, allows us an opening to realize that we are not what we do or think. Our true self is something much different.  Becoming present to our attempts to make others and ourselves wrong in some manner will also create a cleaning for us to begin to think, feel and behave differently.

Once we fully realize that we are perfect, whole and complete just as are, we will bring forth into our lives experiences that will truly empower us and others. It will be at this point that we will begin to authentically take care of ourselves. Taking care of ourselves in this respect will also involve taking care of our true self, of unconditionally loving ourselves completely.

It is only when we truly love and accept ourselves, as we are, in the present moment that we will be able to do so with others. We always think, feel and behave towards others as we think, feel and act towards ourselves.

Your Self Limiting Belief and Breakdowns.

The third component or aspect of Holistic Counseling with respect to breakdowns involves becoming present to ones self-limiting belief, to the source, to that which actually created the breakdown.  Becoming present or aware of ones self limiting belief, to that which has determined ones life up until the process of transformation began to take place, is the first component in the process of Holistic Counseling.  Even though the awareness of ones self-limiting belief will create the space for the person to begin to create his life anew, it does not go away, become fixed or get cured. The self-limiting belief, much like a virus that has appeared in the human body, continues to exist.  As with any idea that we have or create about us, it is also a way of being.  We be or exist by what we think and more specifically by what we think about ourselves. What we are familiar with is being our self-limiting belief in the world. It is familiar for us to think and feel that the world is more powerful and real than we are and furthermore, that it is something that must be controlled and even survived. We will eventually experience a breakdown given our sense of inadequacy with respect to the world as this is how we have been in the community in the past. However, once the self-limiting belief is again distinguished the inauthenticity begins to weaken or be dissolved.
