The Importance of the Law of Attraction for Transformation

While I have watched the movie “The Secret” many times, I have found, upon watching it again recently, that I have “forgotten” some of the primary principles that this important works rests upon.  While I am doing a great deal of work on my dream, much of it technical in nature, I have decided that the key to the dream is not to be found there but rather in the structure of the magnet, the magnet that resides inside me, that is sourcing my experiences.  The success of the dream rests with the alignment of the magnet, the source.

I need to be very clear about what I want.  This is crucial.  If I am clear about what I want then I will also need to hold onto those thoughts, the thoughts of what I want.  It is important to be aware of what you want and also what you do not want.  The distinction is important.  However, staying focused on what you want is crucial as that is the signal you will send out to the universe.  Given up focusing on what you do not want or what is.

It is from this focus, the focus upon what I want, that I will start to attract into my life what I want.  However, I will also have to put myself into alignment with what I say I want.  Monitoring thoughts, feeling what you say you want, having an attitude of gratitude and doing visualizations of what you want are ways to put yourself into alignment with what you want.  This process will take time, patience is needed.

My Plan for Transformation

I have now put together a daily plan for my personal transformation.  The plan involves practicing four separate exercises on a daily basis.  On a weekly basis I will evaluate how I am doing and if any changes are to be made in the plan.  The success of the plan will rest upon my integrity to follow through with the plan.  The purpose of the plan will be to restore my body back to balance and a sense of harmony.

1.  Monitoring my Body:  The practice is to monitor my body throughout that day.  I am to be aware of how I am feeling.  If I feel tense I am to relax my body, to not be doing anything else but relax my body and let go of the stress or tenseness.

2.  Listening to therapeutic relaxation music:  The practice will be to listen to therapeutic relaxation music once a day to start.  As I listen I am to practice relaxing my body.  I can listen more than once a day if I desire to do so.

4.  Meditating:  Practice is to meditate once a day.  The purpose is to get in touch with my body, to feel my body and be comfortable with the experience.

4.  Using Positive Affirmations:  The practice is to use a positive affirmation to be repeated daily.

A Comment about the Power of Relaxation Music to Transform

In addition to my monitoring my body, to being aware of how I am feeling, and practicing the relaxation exercise that I have written about, I am also using the therapeutic relaxation music that I have created to help me relax even more.  I am finding that listening to the relaxation music repeatedly helps me to not only relax at the time that I am listening to it but also assists me in staying relaxed more during the day.  It is as though listening to the music helps to not only create a sense of relaxation at the moment but also begins to condition my body to be or exist in a relaxed and balanced state or way of being.  This relaxed state of being will help my body to heal from certain physical conditions that I have created over time from existing in a state of fear and survival but also will allow for the transformation of my mind and way of thinking.  When relaxed we are more open to suggestions, to new ideas, to ideas and beliefs that are counter to the primary beliefs that have been running the show, to my self limiting beliefs.  Being tense and stressed only restricts us, causes us to be defensive and less open to that which will truly transform us, a change in our thinking, a change in who we think we are, my self limiting belief and belief system.

Creating a State of Relaxation during the Day

The latest part of my practice of transformation is to notice when I am tense, on edge even.  What this requires of me is to notice how I am feeling at the moment.  I simply practice directing my awareness to my body, asking myself how I am feeling at the moment.  What I am finding more times than not is that I am tense.  Most of the time I find that my body is experiencing a state of being stressed.

Once noticed I simply practice relaxing my body.  It is a letting go of the tenseness.  Given this work I know that when I am tense that I am in a state of fear, on guard, preparing for something negative to happen.  To respond differently I simply relax my body and the tenseness eventually dissipates.  I feel more at ease, more relaxed.

This part of my practice takes a lot of awareness.  Even when I do the exercise I know that my body will tense up again, sometimes very soon.  This type of work takes a lot of discipline.  Creating the awareness of a new habit requires that I connect back to my body and how it is feeling at any given time.  Even though I know that my body will become tense again I am getting releif from this practice.  I must stay dedicated to monitoring my body and how it is feeling.

Recognizing a Breakdown is vital to Transforming it.

The first component of having insight or awareness about oneself has to do with recognizing when one is in a breakdown. The key to such awareness is to be found in how the individual is feeling about what is happening in his life at any one moment.  There are many times in our lives where we do not stop to monitor or become present to how we are feeling. Sometimes we have a tendency to merely ignore or move away from how we are feeling about something or someone, people, places or things.  Breakdowns have certain emotions attached to their design.  Those most common are emotions such as fear, anxiety, anger, frustration and sadness. The first part of utilizing or having insight in this respect is to monitor ones feeling state, to become present to how one is feeling and to do so to the point that it becomes part of ones very way of being in the world. Learning how to stay aware of ones emotional state is crucial to being able to successfully transform the breakdown experience that is being created by the person.

Fear appearing as though it is running your life.

The emotion of fear and how it can appear to be running our life is of great importance to have an inquiry about.  We sometimes believe that the emotion of fear is running our life, that it can stop us, control us and limit us from getting out of life what we say we want.  We do have a tendency to believe that fear is the cause of some of our problems, some of the difficulties that we are experiencing.  While there is some truth to this, it is more that fear is an emotion that we experience, sometimes to the point that we truly believe that it stops us.  As an emotion fear has something in common with all emotions.  An emotion or feeling is how our body experiences our thinking, how we experience thoughts and beliefs in our body.  The emotion of fear is no different as it is created or driven by a thought, one very fundamental and basic to our very core, of who we think we are.  Fundamentally we believe that we are not good enough, and as a result experience the emotion of fear as well as others emotions and feelings.  Fear is about me believing that I can not really handle life, that somehow it will handle me, that I am not adequate enough as a person to live life fully, that somehow I am not good enough to do life properly.  Once I have that I am not good enough I will perceive of the world and others as more powerful and adequate than me and as a result be open to the emotional response of fear when life starts to show up as I created it.

Notes on the Big Book – There is a Solution

Chapter Two – There is a Solution

The fellowship of AA exists. The bond to this fellowship, that which binds us, rests, in part, on our feeling of having shared a common peril.

However, that fact alone would not have keep us together.

The fact is that a common solution has been found.

One who has had the same problem of drinking can communicate with someone who is still actively engaged in the illness. Achieving a sense of relatedness is necessary to be of assistance. “Until such an understanding is reached, little or nothing can be accomplishd.”

Seeing past the sense of despair and hopelessness and to a real answer, is necessary for the active alcoholic. This can be created by the one who offers his or her help.

To stop drinking is merely the beginning of the work.

It is more important to demonstrate the principles of our work in our homes, work and daily affairs.

The work rests partially on being of services to others, depending “upon our constant thought of others and how we may help meet their needs.”

Even in the face of knowing that drinking could kill someone that person may drink anyway.

“Moderate drinkers have little trouble in giving up liquor entirely if they have good reason for it.”

A “real alcoholic” loses control of his liquor consumption once he starts to drink again.

This individual will create and build things and have a bright outlook only to destroy and pull the structure down upon himself.

“Perhaps there never will be a full answer to these questions. Opinions vary considerably as to why the alcoholic reacts differently from normal people. We are not sure why, once a certain point os reached, little can be done for him. We cannot answer the riddle.”

The main problem of the alcoholic is in his mind, not his body. Asking one for a reason for his drinking will only produce a variety of reasons.

In truth, alcoholics do not really know why they drink. “Some drinkers have excuses with which they are satisfied part of the time. But in their hearts they really do not know why they do it.”

Most alcoholics have lost their power of choice in drinking.

We forget the negative consequences of past drinking. We drink again.

Not getting that ones drinking always has negative consequences puts the individual at risk, at risk for dying or going permanently insane.

There is a solution, of self searching.

The solution is to eventuate in having a spiritual experience, in our establishing a close relationship with God.

We can either continue to drink or “accept spiritual help.”

“They appear to be in the nature of huge emotional displacements and rearrangements. Ideas, emotions, and attitudes which were once the guiding forces of the lives of these men are suddenly cast to one side, and a completely new set of conceptions and motives begin to dominate them. In fact, I have been trying to produce some such emotional rearrangement within you.”

“We have no desire to convince anyone that there is only one way by which faith can be acquired. If what we have learned and felt and seen means anything at all, it means that all of us, whatever our race, creed, or color are the children of a living Creator with whom we may form a relationship upon simple and understandable terms as soon as we are willing and honest enough to try.”

Forming or establishing a relationship with God is the solution.

Notes on the Big Book – Bill’s Story

Chapter One – Bill’s Story

There appears to be a sense of feeling lonely for me and then the turn to alcohol for relief.

There is also the drive for success, to prove to someone and the world that I am important.

Alcohol eventually took an important and exhilarating part of my life. And as it did so my friends left, leaving me alone.

When I would drink a sense of empowerment and determination would appear and be experienced by me.

My work and employment were eventually affected by my actions and drinking.

Alcohol eventually became a necessity for me.

However, there was still a sense of control, of being able to control the alcohol.

Eventually my self will weakened with respect to alcohol.

Self knowledge is not the way to freedom.

Loneliness, despair and fear appear and are experienced by me as I drink.

“I was soon to be catapulted into what I like to call the fourth dimension of existence. I was to know happiness, peace and usefulness in a way of life that is incredibly more wonderful as time passes.”

Someone reached out to me.

Loss of hope was and had become apparent to me.

My Salvation rested on believing in a power greater than myself.

I simply had to believe in a Spirit of the Universe, who knew neither time nor limitation.

God does for us what we can not do for ourselves.

I soon realized that there must be an admission of complete defeat with respect to alcohol.

“Had this power originated in him? Obviously it had not. There had been no more power in him than there was in me at that minute; and this was none at all.”

The concept or notion of God triggers our past, bringing up our experiences of what we refer to as religion, “vestiges of my old prejudice.”

We can choose our own conception of God.

It started from a mere willingness to believe in a power greater than myself.

With a belief in or a willingness to believe in God a “new world came into view.”

Our experience of a power greater than myself gets “blotted out by worldly clamors, mostly those within myself.”

“There I humbly offered myself to God, as I then understood Him, to do with me as He would. I placed myself unreservedly under His care and direction. I admitted for the first time that of myself I was nothing; that without Him I was lost.”

When I had a problem or was in doubt I was to sit quietly and ask for God’s direction and strength to meet my problems.

I was never to pray for myself, “except as my requests bore on my usefulness to others.”

The work was to obtain a new relationship with my Creator, God. “Belief in the power of God, plus enough willingness, honest and humility to establish and maintain the new order of things, were the essential requirements.”

I had to give up my self-centeredness. I must turn it all over to God.

When I do so there will be a sense of victory, and a feeling of peace and serenity.

I must also be of help to others. They in turn may assist still others.

I must demonstrate this work and its principles in all my affairs.

Faith is critical, but “faith without works was dead.”

“Most of us feel we need look no further for Utopia. We have it with us right here and now.”
