The Fall from Grace and the Resurrection

Life was good at one time, filled with happiness, contentment, joy and excitement, the person accomplishing what there was to be accomplished.  Life was progressing, dreams being fulfilled, life seeming to be so full of possibility.  One could hardly wait to wake up each morning to get back into the game of life.  Then came the Fall from Grace.  What appeared to be a road to success suddenly turned into a journey in a totally different direction, one filled with pain, confusion, depression, anxiety, even death, a road with hell as the final destination. For some, with the Fall from Grace, comes a life about going no where except doing the same thing over and over, wishfully and irrationally thinking, that things will turn out different somehow.  However, they never do, rather, only to get worse with each day.

The question has always been of how to get out of the vicious cycle of ones self imposed hell, of what is being created day in and day out, over and over.  With the Fall from Grace comes a life that is not really about living but rather one that is truly about dying.  Once the Fall takes place people try many things to get back on track.  However, most of the efforts that are made are futile in nature, being unable to get past the damage that got created during the Fall.  Most people try to deal with the damage, attempting to correct or mend it in some way, thinking that that will makes things better, even resolve their problems.  While some manage to maintain a life of some sorts by dealing with their past, that part of their existence that happened shortly after the Fall, there is always some sense of things not being complete, of them not being whole.  Something is still wrong.

However, with the Fall from Grace ones existence does not have to continue to be a life sentence of pain, as small as it may seem at times.  For some, a Resurrection can take place and a new freedom gotten or experienced, not as something new but as something remembered.  Life at one point was good, perfect, and the person was on track with his or her life.  The Resurrection takes place by going back to obtain a powerful resource for the individual, a resource that is about a former way of being.  This resource is still there, waiting to be remembered and utilized in ones present life.

A combination of hypnotic, trance work and NLP will allow one to go back in time to reawaken a true source of power, a moment in time when the person was experiencing life as perfect, was living in a space of Grace.  What this requires is for the individual to identify a point in their life when all was good, a moment before the Fall from Grace.  Once identified, the individual is gently guided back to that moment, to experience it completely.  Once experienced and anchored, the resource is then brought back into present time, to be used to restore life and recreate a positive direction for their existence, a true Resurrection.  The damage done, that which was created after the Fall, is healed instantly, restoring the individual back to sanity.  By doing this work a true and lasting transformation has taken place.

Recovery involves being able to deal with Breakdowns.

Success in recovery, or rather, staying in recovery, is dependent upon a variety of factors.   For example, it appears that attending daily NA or AA meetings and staying in communication with ones chosen sponsor will definitely assist an individual in successfully implementing his recovery plan.  Getting and staying committed to working the 12 Step Program also appears to increase the probability of the person staying abstinent from drugs and alcohol.  While the above-mentioned elements of a persons overall recovery plan are crucial to his recovery, another major factor that will greatly influence an individual’s continued abstinence is how he is able to handle the breakdowns that happen in life.
Knowing about breakdowns, what they are and how to manage them, is absolutely necessary for one to stay committed to his recovery plan.  Breakdowns are what brought an individual into treatment and eventually created the space for him to begin his recovery.  Breakdowns also happen while a person is in treatment and will continue to take place after he leaves.  Even after successfully completing a treatment program, breakdowns are almost certain to happen as one returns to the community from which he came.  In fact, both the client and his counselor should expect breakdowns to occur after treatment.  It is for this reason that knowledge of the structure of breakdowns and how to transform them is very important if not crucial for the individual wanting recovery.

Chapter Nine – Success leaves Clues

According to Canfield almost everything you want to do or achieve has already been done by someone else at sometime.

Take advantage of this former research and success.

A major resource here is other people. Simply find someone who has achieved what you want to have and ask them how they achieved it.

Give up the idea that others will not help you or give you information that could assist you.

We sometimes do not seek out resources such as from other people for a variety of reasons, it being inconvenient, hard work, fear of rejection, being uncomfortable, etc.

Seek out the clues to your potential success with respect to your goals by seeking out a teacher, finding someone who has already done it and by asking someone that you can shadow or watch them for a day to learn.

Notes on the Big Book – Bill’s Story

Chapter One – Bill’s Story

There appears to be a sense of feeling lonely for me and then the turn to alcohol for relief.

There is also the drive for success, to prove to someone and the world that I am important.

Alcohol eventually took an important and exhilarating part of my life. And as it did so my friends left, leaving me alone.

When I would drink a sense of empowerment and determination would appear and be experienced by me.

My work and employment were eventually affected by my actions and drinking.

Alcohol eventually became a necessity for me.

However, there was still a sense of control, of being able to control the alcohol.

Eventually my self will weakened with respect to alcohol.

Self knowledge is not the way to freedom.

Loneliness, despair and fear appear and are experienced by me as I drink.

“I was soon to be catapulted into what I like to call the fourth dimension of existence. I was to know happiness, peace and usefulness in a way of life that is incredibly more wonderful as time passes.”

Someone reached out to me.

Loss of hope was and had become apparent to me.

My Salvation rested on believing in a power greater than myself.

I simply had to believe in a Spirit of the Universe, who knew neither time nor limitation.

God does for us what we can not do for ourselves.

I soon realized that there must be an admission of complete defeat with respect to alcohol.

“Had this power originated in him? Obviously it had not. There had been no more power in him than there was in me at that minute; and this was none at all.”

The concept or notion of God triggers our past, bringing up our experiences of what we refer to as religion, “vestiges of my old prejudice.”

We can choose our own conception of God.

It started from a mere willingness to believe in a power greater than myself.

With a belief in or a willingness to believe in God a “new world came into view.”

Our experience of a power greater than myself gets “blotted out by worldly clamors, mostly those within myself.”

“There I humbly offered myself to God, as I then understood Him, to do with me as He would. I placed myself unreservedly under His care and direction. I admitted for the first time that of myself I was nothing; that without Him I was lost.”

When I had a problem or was in doubt I was to sit quietly and ask for God’s direction and strength to meet my problems.

I was never to pray for myself, “except as my requests bore on my usefulness to others.”

The work was to obtain a new relationship with my Creator, God. “Belief in the power of God, plus enough willingness, honest and humility to establish and maintain the new order of things, were the essential requirements.”

I had to give up my self-centeredness. I must turn it all over to God.

When I do so there will be a sense of victory, and a feeling of peace and serenity.

I must also be of help to others. They in turn may assist still others.

I must demonstrate this work and its principles in all my affairs.

Faith is critical, but “faith without works was dead.”

“Most of us feel we need look no further for Utopia. We have it with us right here and now.”

Chapter One – Take 100 % Responsibility For Your Life.

In the process of transforming my life I have taken on the reading and applying the work of Jack Canfield and his book, Success Principles.

As with anything, the principles for success will work if I work them. No one other than me can do that which is suggested of and for me to do. As I also know repetition is the key, the key to the implementation and realization of the principles. Suggestions get made, and sometimes I do as requested and then again, sometimes I resist. I surrender to that which I need to do to transform my life or I resist, not wanting to do what is necessarily for me to change or transform my life. Being patient but persistent is also key. Work the principles fully and completely and practice perseverance, never giving up, is crucial for me to be a success.

Chapter One – Take 100 % Responsibility For Your Life.

First, I must get that I am not entitled to anything, anything in life. There is no one that is responsible for making sure that my life is fulfilled, exciting, and that I am happy. Nothing is suppose to or should happen in my life.

There is only one person who is responsible for the quality of my life and that person is me, me alone. I need to, if I am to transform my life, take 100 % responsibility for my life and all of the experiences that I have had and will have in the future. This amounts to me taking responsibility for my achievements, relationships, state of my health, income, feelings, in short, everything that I experience.

However, much of my life has been about not taking responsibility, of blaming others for my situation and circumstances, what is happening in my life. I sometimes have a tendency to blame something or someone outside of myself for the parts of my life that I do not like. It is time to stop looking outside of myself for the reason and answers to why I have not had or created the life that I have wanted. It is time to look to myself.

Taking responsibility, full responsibility, means that I have to acknowledge that I have created everything in my life, everything that has and will happen to me. I am the cause of all my experiences, I am the cause in the matter. To take full and complete responsibility for my experiences I will have to give up blaming and complaining. It is only by getting that I truly created my current conditions that I can recreate my life, the nature of the experiences that I have. Taking full responsibility will allow me to assume my power to recreate my life anew.

Important to this process is to give up all of my excuses, of being a victim, all the reasons why I can not do, of blaming outside circumstances and situations, thereby allowing me to assume and acknowledge my power to redirect and recreate my life. I have always had this power. I am always creating my life regardless of whether or not I acknowledge it or not. I am in truth always responsible. It is only through choice that I make a conscious effort or decision to take and assume, to acknowlege, 100% responsibility for all of my experiences, for everything that does or does not happen to me.

When something does not happen the way that I wanted it to happen, I need to ask myself how I created it, what was I thinking, what were or are my beliefs, or what did I do or not do to create the situation. Just as important I need to become present to what I need to do differently to create a different result, to get the result that I want.

According to Canfield, the event that happens plus my response to the event gets me the outcome, what I experience. If I do not like the outcome I can do one of two things. I can blame the event. Or I can focus on and assume that the cause is my response to the event. I can simply accept the event and focus my efforts on changing my responses to the event. I can change my thinking or my actions with respect to the event. Much of my life has been about blaming the event whether it be a person, place or thing. The key to transforming my life will be to stay present to my response to the events that happen.

What I have control over is the thoughts that I have, the actions that I take and the images that I visualize in my mind. How I use these three things will determine my experiences, my responses to events in my life. The key to having different outcomes or experiences is to change one or all of them, change my thoughts to more positive ones, change what I dream about, my habits, what I read, my friends and how I talk or communicate. If I keep doing what I have done I get what I have always gotten. If I want different experiences or outcomes then I must do differently.

Suggestions:

1. Examine my thoughts and beliefs. Does my thinking stop or hinder me? Change the ones that are barriers to my life.

2. Examine my actions. Do my actions get me what I want? Change my behavior to be in alignment with what I want.

3. Examine how I communicate to others and myself.

4. Give up blaming others, people, places and things completely for my experiences.

5. Give up complaining completely about my experiences.

6. Pay attention to the “yellow alerts.” Pay attention to my experiences that are alerting me to the fact that I need to respond differently to an event. The “yellow alerts” can be internal or external. Pay attention to the feedback that will be given to me.

7. Be aware of or conscious of my thoughts and actions.

Taking Suggestions

There is a line in the Big Book that is crucial to the recovery process for anyone, for a person in AA or NA. “The first requirement is that we be convinced that any life run on self-will can hardly be a success.” It makes reference to being the first requirement for a very important reason. The implication from this line is about taking suggestions. In the beginning of the recovery process the ability of a person to accept and follow suggestions will make a big difference in whether or not he or she is able to do recovery successfully. It may even been what keeps a person alive or not. It is one of the first components of my work with other in recovery that gets processed and discussed, both in group and individual settings. How a person is in their ability to follow suggestions needs to be confronted and processed almost immediately as most individuals in recovery want to do life their way.
