Dr. Henshaw’s relaxation music was originally created from his practice of hypnosis and hypnotherapy and has been used in a variety of mental health, substance abuse and military settings through out the country and world for stress management.

While his relaxation music, meditation music and sleep music has been very effective in clinically oriented settings, Dr. Henshaw believes that his music’s best application is to the general public, to everyone who needs assistance in reducing and managing the stress of daily life. Dr. Henshaw believes that if a person can learn how to experience a relaxed state and on a more consistent basis throughout the week that he will nessarily reduce the harmful consequences that stress could have in his life.

Dr. Henshsaw believes further that it is the design of his relaxation music that causes the beneficial effect for the listener. First, there is the structure of the musical composition. Dr. Henshaw believes that having long, sustained chords or voices, approximately 12 to 15 seconds in duration, with slow transitions between the chords works best. Such a structure causes the body and mind to slow down and begin to relax and as and eventually attain a deep state of relaxation.

The second component of his relaxation music is the binaural audio tones that have been mixed into the music. The binaural beats or tones, through a process referred to as “entrainment” or “frequency following”, gently directs the body to make more of the brain wave frequencies necessary for either deep relaxation or sleep. The recordings for deep relaxation contain binaural audio tones within the theta range while the recordings for sleep contains binaural audio tones within the delta range.

Listening to Dr. Henshaw’s relaxation music helps to relieve stress almost immediately. With the repeated, continuous use of Dr. Henshaw’s relaxation music he believes that the beneficial effects can be profound and are cumulative over time. Dr. Henshaw earned his doctoral degree in Human Development and Counseling from Boston University. Dr. Henshaw currently works in a Drug Rehab program in the Miami area and has a private counseling practice. People deal with stress in a variety of ways.  It is my belief that music can be one of the best and safest ways to manage and even reduce the stress that we experience, sometimes on a daily basis.

The relaxation music, meditation music and sleep music that I have created has been used in a variety of settings, many of them clinical in nature.  For example, my music is being used to help addicts with their recovery from drugs and alcohol.  I have also created a campaign to help raise money that will enable addicts to receive the treatment services that they need to change their life.

My music is also being used in the development of a very special program to help veterans deal with the trauma of being in combat situations, Living Tributes to America’s Warriors.

While my relaxation music can be very effective in the clinically oriented settings mentioned above, I believe its best application is to everyone who needs assistance in reducing and managing the stress of daily life.  I believe that if a person can learn how to keep himself in a relaxed state on a more consistent basis that he will reduce the harmful consequences that stress could have in his life.

While my music definitely has its clinical applications, I believe that my relaxation music can help to prevent individuals in our global community from ever experiencing the negative consequences of stress that was mentioned above.  It is in this sense that I believe my relaxation music has within it the possibility of transforming the world.

Stress Relief to be found in Creating a State of Relaxation

Many are not quite sure about how to have true or real relieve from stress.  Some people turn to alcohol or narcotics for their relief.  While the relief from stress can be gained from using narcotics and alcohols, at least momentarily, the consequences of pursuing this type of plan is always negative.  Even though the immediate payoff for using drugs and alcohol is very reinforcing, it will eventually result in even more stress for the individual.

While I do believe that the true and lasting resolution to stress and having stress relief is to be found in changing your thinking and in learning the skills to stay with such a transformation, such a process does take time and effort.  Changing how we see or perceive people, places and things and especially how we view ourselves does take time and will not happen over night or instantly.  As our thinking does dictate our behavior and even our life, the key to stress reduction will only be found in altering our thoughts, ideas and beliefs.

However, while we are working on transforming our thoughts and way of thinking we do need effective and somewhat more immediate way to gain the relief from stress that we so desperately need.  What I suggest is the use of relaxation and meditation music.  Using relaxation music and meditation music, even sleep music when going to sleep at night, can give you the relief that you need as you go about changing your thinking and life.  When you use relaxation music and meditation music and give your full attention to it you can obtain relief from your daily stress.  Stress relief can be found in creating a state of deep relaxation.

What is stress?  “Stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some way.  When you sense danger – whether it is real or imagined – the body’s defenses kick into high gear in a rapid, automatic process known as the “fight or flight” reaction or the stress response.

The stress response is the body’s way of protecting you.  When working properly, it helps you stay focused, energetic, and alert.  In emergency situations, stress can save your life – giving you extra strength to defend yourself, for example, or spurring you to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident.

The stress response also helps you rise to meet challenges.  Stress is what keeps you on your toes during a presentation at work, sharpens your concentration when when your attempting the game-winning free throw, or drives you to study for an exam when you would rather be watching TV.

Causes of Stress

What are the causes of stress?  “The situations and pressures that cause stress are known as stressors.  We usually think of stressors as being negative, such as an exhausting work schedule or a rocky relationship.  However, anything that puts high demands on you or forces you to adjust can be stressful.  This includes positive events such as getting married, buying a house, going to college, or receiving a promotion.

What causes stress depends on, at least in part, on your perception of it.  Something that is stressful to you may not faze someone else; they may even enjoy it.  For example, your morning commute may make your anxious and tense because you worry that traffic will make you late.  Other, however, may find the trip relaxing because they allow more than enough time and enjoy listening to music while they drive.”  Stress, our experience of it, is dependent upon our perception, upon our thinking.  Understanding Stress
